The definition of “ultra-processed” food is not supported in the light of food science and technology
This definition contradicts current standards and legislation in force and classifies foods using criteria without consistent basis. The definition was created by professionals from other areas, who do not master the processed food theory and practice. This classification is rejected by many institutions from the food science and technology area.
The use of this definition to state that industrialized food are improper for consumption ignores the fact that these foods are approved by governmental regulatory bodies, after accurate analysis to prove its effectiveness and safety for consumption. Therefore, it contradicts and conflicts with the determinations from the regulatory bodies of Ministry of Health and Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.
